Terry founded Clarkson Electrical in 1997 after beginning his Electrical career in 1963. One of the main reasons he formed the company was his passion for customers and the ethos of running a family business that cares about its people and customers. These values are still core to the business today. Since David was promoted to General Manager Terry has become the Technical Expert in the business, and has an open door policy for staff and customers of Clarkson's. He has been involved in a wide range of positions from Registered Electrician, Chief Electrician, Branch Manager, and General Manager. His breadth of knowledge is vast and he has expertise in a wide range of applications from Domestic, Industrial and Commercial. Since 1984 when Terry was granted registration as an Electrial Inspector he has become a specialist in the Hazardous Area. With Clarkson's he has achieved substantial work for Mobil Oil, Gull Petroleum, Auckland Airport and New Zealand Steel. He is a member of the Electrical Safety Organisation Inc and Institute of Electricians and has been Auckland President for the Electrical Contractors Association. His interests are rugby, family and Triumph Spitfires!
David Clarkson - General Manager
David has considerable experience in the Electrical Industry. He began his Electrical apprenticeship in 1993. Since joining Clarkson Electrical in 1997 he has progressed from a Registered Electrician, Contracts Manager, Operations Manager and to the role of General Manager.
David runs the daily operation of Clarkson Electrical. His breadth of experience is of great benefit to our staff having previously had technical expertise in general Electrical, Hazardous Areas and Air-conditioning. He is qualified as a Work Task Assessor for apprentices in the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering. David, as well as running the business is working towards an MBA at Auckland University and is very focused on training and development opportunities for all Clarkson's Electrical staff and contractors. David's main interests are spending time with his young family and friends
Douglas McRobbie - Auckland Branch Manager
Doug's electrical career began in 1980, when he commenced his apprenticeship at HF Electrical Ltd in Scotland. Doug became a registered electrician in 1984, became an Approved Electrician in 1988 and then went on to become Contracts Manager a few years later. His duties included running small to large contracts in the commercial and industrial sectors including pricing works, negotiating tenders, carrying out the works, invoicing of contracts right down to the complete documentation to close out the works. He also became an inspector for the NICEIC who are one of the governing bodies in the UK for the Electrical Industry.
In 2006, Doug and his family emigrated to New Zealand where he took up employment with Electrix as Project Manager. Successful projects carried out by Doug included:
- Northern Busways Project - Three new bus stations located at Akoranga, Smales Farm and Sunnynook.
- Tasman Room - Alexandra Park
- Eden Park - Temporary Sports Lighting for demolition of stand.
- Watercare - Ardmore and Lower Nihotipu
- Lion Brewery - East Tamaki, Relocation of brewery from Newmarket.
In 2010, Doug joined Clarkson Electrical as Branch Development Manager, and then proceeded to become Auckland Branch Manager.
Doug's main interests are V8 Supercars, golf and relaxing with the family.
Alan Chapple - Contracts Supervisor
Alan qualified as an Electrician in 1977 and worked on a range of projects including Freezer Installations, Mining and Quarrying work, Processing (Masterfoods) and as subcontractor on projects for six years. Alan emigrated to New Zealand with his wife and two daughters in 1996. His Electrical work in New Zealand began at Auckland Airport in the baggage handling area and large-scale high-rise apartments. Alan started with Clarkson's shortly after it's inception in 1997. He was employed as an Electrician, then leading hand before moving to the role of Contracts Supervisor 2003. He has worked on a range of projects including Watercare Pump Stations, Warehousing design and builds, Petrochemicals including Mobil, Shell and Gull. His role is to supervise all our Electricians, Electrical Apprentices and Subcontractors on contracts work. He also acts as the Project Manager on these jobs.Alan's main interests are V8 Motor Racing and Badminton. One of his daughters is a New Zealand Representative!
Craig Pratt - Design and Estimating Manager
Craig entered the Electrical Industry as an apprentice in 1973 after leaving school. He worked for Dickson Grey Electrical for 30 years in a variety of roles including Electrician, Service Manager and Contracts Manager. He mainly specialized in Commercial and Industrial, with large projects undertaken with construction company Hayden & Rollet. In 2003 Craig joined Clarkson's Electrical initially as the Switch Board Supervisor overseeing the design, manufacture and installation of commercial switchboards. He was very quickly promoted to Contracts Manager to oversee large projects for Clarksons including Drinkrow Industrial Estates. In 2008 Craig was made Design and Estimate Manager in recognition for his specialist skills in the area of Commercial Design and Estimating and has recently qualified as an Electrical Inspector. Craig's main interests are sport, particulary Rugby and Family
Brent
Corlett - Wellington Branch Manager
Between 1985 to 1989 Brent worked as
an electrician for Frank Millar and Co and was involved in a wide range of
electrical duties.
In 1990 Brent moved to Serco Services, initially as an electrician and then progressed to being the Division Manager. During this time Brent had a wide range of responsibilities, from pricing jobs to project and site management, electrical work and staff supervision.
In 1996 Brent ran his own business,
Accord Management, which encompassed an electrical and plumbing team
responsible for maintenance work.
In 2002 Brent moved on to another of
his own businesses - iPlay Internet Café.
In 2010 he moved back into the
electrical field as the Maintenance Manager for TME Electrical, which
encompassed a wide range of electrical and management duties.
In 2011 Brent joined the team at
Clarkson Electrical Ltd, as our Wellington Branch Manager. Chris Baker - Christchurch Branch Manager
Chris began his apprenticeship with
Austral Standard Cables in Hornby, Christchurch at the age of 17 and
completed his apprenticeship in 1990.
Since
qualifying as an electrician Chris has worked in Christchurch,
Greymouth and Nelson as a white ware technician/ electrician for Smith City,
Metering technician for Vircom-EMS and welding equipment serviceman for Dennis
Cunningham LTD. During this time, not
only did Chris gain skills in industrial, commercial and domestic wiring and
service work, but he also gained experience installing heat pumps, night stores,
under floor heating and various other methods of heating.
Chris
has also held several positions ranging from counter sale for wholesalers,
charge hand, supervisor and manager.
During time spent in the metering industry Chris obtained registration
as an Electrical inspector
Chris
joined Clarkson Electrical Ltd as our Christchurch Branch Manager in 2010. Gail Brownlee C.A. - Financial Controller
Gail qualified as a Chartered
Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in
Auckland in 1989. Since then she has gained considerable experience
in both Chartered Accounting and industry, including the construction,
transport, sporting (not for profit) and banking sectors.
With over 25 years experience, Gail
has a broad range of skills in accounting and management of medium-sized
businesses. Her particular strengths are in the preparation of
budgets, cashflows and monthly monitoring of financial statements.
A self-proclaimed gym-junkie, Gail
joined Clarksons in 2010 as Financial Controller.
